Leadville serves as the focal point of this high-altitude survey, surrounded by the intense mining development of Carbonate Hill and Iron Hill. The landscape is a dense network of competing late-century industrial infrastructure, including the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and the Colorado Midland Railroad fighting for passage through the steep terrain. Beyond the main silver camp, numerous smaller mining settlements and stops like Kokomo, Robinson, and London Park City dot the drainages of the Blue River and South Platte River.
