Lehman Springs and Hidaway Springs anchor this portion of the Blue Mountains, where the boundaries of Umatilla National Forest and Whitman National Forest meet. The landscape is defined by a dense network of water sources and high-altitude grazing lands, including French Corral Meadow and Nelson Meadows. A complex system of drainages, such as Bear-Wallow Creek, Camas Creek, and the aptly named Butcherknife Creek, carves through the terrain, suggesting a long history of seasonal livestock movement and backcountry transit.
