Lesterville and the nearby hamlet of Lake Springs sit at the intersection of several river branches in this 2015 survey of Reynolds and Iron counties. The landscape is defined by the heavy drainage of the Black River, including its Middle Fork and East Fork, which carve through the dense terrain of the Saint Francois Mountains. Settlement patterns are largely confined to these narrow river valleys and the numerous hollows that branch away from the water, such as Clay Lick Hollow and Needmore Hollow.
