Deer Lodge National Forest and Beaverhead National Forest converge in this high-altitude landscape where the headwaters of numerous creeks begin their descent. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages including Tenmile Cr, Slaughterhouse Cr, and French Cr, which carve through the prominent Moose Ridge and Wolf Ridge Rd areas. The boundary between Deer Lodge and Silver Bow counties meets at the southern edge near the Big Hole River, a vital water source for the region.
