Fort Peck Lake dominates the northern reaches of this Missouri River country, its sprawling fingers forming Beebe Coulee Bay and Crooked Creek Bay. The surrounding landscape is defined by a dense network of coulees that drain the breaks, including North Whitey Coulee, South Whitey Coulee, and Kibler Coulee. The terrain rises toward Little Buffalo Hill, a prominent landmark between the drainage of Rough Coulee and Dry Coulee. The boundary between Valley County and Garfield County cuts across the water, illustrating the modern administrative divisions of this sparsely populated ranching and recreation region. This 2017 survey captures the shoreline levels and topographic relief of the breaks before they descend toward Hell Creek Bay in the southwest.
