The Mississippi River defines the western edge of this landscape, carving a boundary between Benton and Stearns counties. Flowing through the center of the sheet, the Mississippi River Trl follows the water's curve toward the growing communities of Sartell and Sauk Rapids in the south. This area is characterized by a mix of river-bottom wetlands and the prominent basin of Little Rock Lake, which is fed by Little Rock Creek and Sucker Creek from the northeast.

Smaller settlements and rural centers provide a sense of the region's historical layout, including Rice near the northern boundary and St. Stephen further west. For genealogists and local historians, the map preserves the locations of the Rice Cem and Brockway Cem.
