Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument stands as the archaeological centerpiece of this high-country survey in the southwestern corner of New Mexico. The terrain is defined by the deep incisions of the West Fork Gila River and Little Creek, which carve through the volcanic landscape of the Gila Wilderness. Indigenous history is etched into the landscape at Cliff Dweller Canyon, while the surrounding Gila National Forest remains largely roadless, preserved through a network of rugged paths like the West Fork Trl and Granny Mountain Trl.
