Llonidas Lake sits at the heart of this San Miguel County landscape, surrounded by a complex network of high-altitude drainages. The area is defined by its numerous named canyons, including Cañon Encinoso, Cañon Pinabete, and Cañon Carriso, which carve through the high plains terrain. These geographical features dictated the placement of early ranching and residential sites, such as the Wilson Ranch and the small clusters at Crews and Griego.
