Black Butte rises as a central landmark in this portion of the Lodge Pole District, overlooking a landscape defined by the drainage systems of Peoples Cr and the S Fork Peoples Cr. This 2017 topographic survey highlights the intersection of natural watercourses and transportation routes, such as Indian Hwy 8 and Rte 8, which cut through the undulating terrain. To the south and east, the topography transitions into distinct geographical depressions including Corral Coulee and Wolf Coulee. The mapping of Lodge Pole Cr in the southwest corner illustrates the complex hydrology of this part of Blaine County. The arrangement of section lines and township boundaries, including t28n r24e and t28n r25e, provides a clear grid for understanding land divisions within this rural Montana territory.
