The Steamboat Butte Oil Field dominates the southeastern corner of this landscape within the Wind River Indian Reservation. A network of infrastructure supports the mid-century petroleum industry here, including a Pipe Line, numerous Oil Wells, Oil Tanks, and several Sludge Pits. This industrial footprint is concentrated on Mexican Flat, south of the prominent landform of Steamboat Butte.
