About this map

The timber and mining landscape of eastern Sullivan County is centered on the village of Lopez, where St Vladimirs Ch and its associated St Vladimirs Cem stand near the confluence of Loyalsock Creek and Lopez Creek. The terrain is defined by the high plateaus of Dutch Mountain and Indian Ridge, heavily divided by a network of runs and creeks. Evidence of industry is scattered throughout the township lines of Cherry and Colley, including a Strip Mine near Murray and several sections of Old Railroad Grade that once served the logging and coal interests of the region. To the southeast, the geography transitions into protected conservation areas, notably State Game Lands No. 66 and the northern reaches of Ricketts Glen State Park, where landmarks like Splashdam Pond and Lake John are situated among the headwaters of Mehoopany Creek.
