The settlement of Lyon Mountain and the neighboring hamlet of Standish occupy this portion of the northern Adirondack Park, where the high peaks of the Clinton and Franklin county line rise above the waters of Upper Chateaugay Lake. The landscape is dominated by a succession of significant summits, including Averill Peak, Norton Peak, and Haystack Mountain, many of which fall within the protected Adirondack Park Preserve.
