The Wrangell Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape, where vast ice fields and glacial systems define the terrain. Glaciers flow from the slopes of Regal Mtn, including the massive Nabesna Glacier to the north and the Regal Glacier and Nizina Glacier to the east. This section of the Alaskan interior is managed through a complex of federal designations, including the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park, the Wrangell-St. Elias Wilderness, and the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Preserve. The movement of ice is visible through the West Fork Glacier and Root Glacier, which carve through the land in a region largely devoid of human infrastructure or permanent settlements, preserving a snapshot of the Copper River Census Area's protected wilderness.
