McDade anchors this portion of the Texas post-oak savannah, situated along the county line between Lee and Bastrop Counties. The landscape is defined by the prominent Yegua Knobbs, a series of elevations that rise above the surrounding drainages of W Yegua Creek and Mine Creek. This area preserves a dense record of early settlement through its numerous burial grounds, including the Old Knobbs Springs Cemetery and New Knobbs Springs Cemetery, which suggest the historic importance of the Knobbs Springs community north of the main townsite.
