The Flathead River cuts a wide path through this portion of Sanders County, defining the geography of the McDonald Basin and the surrounding mountain slopes. The valley floor is marked by the small settlements of McDonald and Dixon, both linked by the route of MT-200. The landscape is heavily influenced by water management and drainage, as evidenced by the Revais Canal and a network of creeks including Gunderson Cr and Revais Cr that flow from the higher elevations toward the river. To the north, the terrain rises sharply toward the summit of Sonyok Mtn, while a system of rural access roads like Dixon 7000 and E Magpie Creek Rd provides passage through the deeply contoured ridges and valleys of the Flathead Indian Reservation area.
