Mcintyre Creek and its many tributaries carve through this section of the Umatilla National Forest, where the landscape is defined by its drainage systems and high-country springs. The southern edge of the sheet is anchored by the Grande Ronde River, which receives flow from Meadow Creek and Starkey Creek near the Winter Canyon area. A network of Forest Service roads provides access to the interior, where landmarks like the Flat Lake Lookout Tower suggest the vital role of fire observation in this timbered region.
