Umatilla National Forest and Whitman National Forest converge in this high-country drainage, where a complex network of forest development roads provides access to the headwaters of McIntyre Creek. The landscape is defined by its water sources, including numerous named seeps such as Bowman Spring, Antler Spring, and Coyote Spring that feed the seasonal flow of the region's steep ravines. To the southeast, the terrain drops into the prominent Dark Canyon and Winter Canyon systems before reaching the Grande Ronde River. This 2014 survey documents the modern intersection of Umatilla and Union counties, showing a topography heavily utilized for timber management and resource conservation, evidenced by routes like McIntyre Rd and Nat For Dev Rd 2135.
