Neponset Reservoir and several smaller catchments define the water management landscape of this high-elevation corner of Rich County. The terrain is characterized by a series of north-south running ridges and hollows, including McKay Ridge and Lake Ridge, which guide the seasonal flow of Saleratus Cr and Crane Cr. A portion of the Cache National Forest occupies the western edge of the quadrangle, where the topography rises sharply toward Table Mtn. This area reflects a long-standing reliance on high-country springs and reservoirs, with sites like Negro Dan Spring, Chicken Spring, and Keg Spring providing critical water sources in an arid landscape. The map captures the specialized infrastructure of the Great Basin's eastern rim, featuring the numbered Saleratus Reservoir Number 1 and Saleratus Reservoir Number 2 which supported local ranching and livestock operations.
