Augusta Regional Airport at Bush Field and the industrial corridors south of Augusta define the western portion of this 2017 landscape, where the heavy infrastructure of Wastewater Treatment Pond Number Five and other facilities meet the transition to the Savannah River bottomlands. The river itself serves as the state line between Georgia and South Carolina, meandering past New Savannah Bluff and numerous oxbow features like Hardens Dead River and Horseshoe Lake.

South of the airport, the terrain shifts into a mosaic of small communities and rural family history. Genealogists will find several notable burial grounds, including Union Cem near Mechanic Hill and Johnson Cem to the south. The wetlands east of the river are characterized by complex drainage systems such as Red Island Creek and McCurry Br, highlighting the delta-like environment of the Richmond County borderlands before they reach McBean Creek at the southern edge of the survey.
