About this map

The town of Melcher and the smaller community of Dallas anchor the northwest corner of this Marion County landscape, showing the organized grid of a settled agricultural and transport hub. The terrain is defined by the branching drainages of Tracey Creek, Crow Creek, and English Branch, which cut across the high plains between the townships of Dallas, Washington, and English. The southern portion of the sheet crosses into Lucas County, where the village of Belinda sits near Belinda Ch and Pleasant Prairie Ch. Genealogists will find several rural burial sites, including Columbia Cem, Stotts Cem, and Strong Cem, located away from the primary settlements. The presence of a Quarry near Carruthers Creek and Sewage Disposal Ponds near the main town sites indicates the local infrastructure and industry of the early 1980s.
