The rolling plains of Dickey County are marked by a distinct pattern of spiritual and pioneer history, evidenced by several small burial grounds scattered across the township grid. These sites, including the Pioneer Seventh-Day Adventist Cem and a second Seventh-Day Adventist Cem further south, point to the denominational roots of the early families who settled this corner of North Dakota. Other family and community sites like Roloff Cem and Hoffnungsfeld Cem are preserved among the wetlands and section-line roads. The hydrology is defined by prairie potholes and larger bodies of water such as Hilles Lake, which breaks the regular geometry of the 1:24,000 scale survey. This landscape remains largely defined by its original homestead divisions and the cardinal orientation of its rural road network.
