About this map

Carlton and the smaller settlement of Methow anchor the north and south ends of the Methow River valley in this modern survey of the Okanogan foothills. The landscape is defined by the river's winding path through the Methow Valley, where historical land use and travel are evident in the network of routes like Old Carlton Rd and Stage Coach Rd. Broad level areas such as Morse Flat, Mills Flat, and Cumbo Flat sit alongside the waterway, providing rare flat ground in a region dominated by the drainages of Texas Creek and McFarland Creek. Significant portions of the eastern and western boundaries are protected within the Okanogan National Forest, reflecting the area's transition from riverbed agriculture to high timberland and basin terrain like McCall Basin.
