Mining operations north of Squaw Valley dominate this mid-century portrait of a remote Nevada gold district. The settlement of Midas is surrounded by a dense cluster of claims and shafts, including the Midas Mine, Rex Mine, and the Jackson Mine. Just south of the townsite, the Midas Cem serves as a silent record of the local population during the area's peak production years.

The landscape transitions from the flat expanse of the valley floor to the steep elevations of the Owyhee Bluffs and Jake Creek Mtn. Numerous water sources, such as Summit Creek and Evans Creek, flow from the high ground toward the ranching lands below, where the Wilkinson Ranch represents the agricultural footprint in this mineral-rich terrain. Large-scale mining interests are further evidenced by the Esmeralda Group and the Esmeralda Mine, marking the northern edge of the survey.
