The Santa Fe River and its intricate hydrological system define this North Florida landscape at the borders of Columbia, Alachua, and Union Counties. The region is marked by significant karst topography, notably the Robinson Sinks and the complex drainage of Olustee Creek, which feeds into the larger river system. Much of the southern portion is protected within the River Rise Preserve State Park, where the river disappears underground and resurfaces, a phenomenon represented by the River Sink and nearby Hogpen Pond.
