Twin Buttes rises as a prominent landmark in the southern reaches of this Custer County landscape, marking the high ground between the drainage systems of Miller Cr and Sixmile Cr. The terrain is defined by a complex network of seasonal and perennial watercourses that flow toward the southeast, eventually meeting the Tongue River as it cuts across the corner of the survey. These waterways, including Horse Cr and Miles Cr, have carved deep coulees and draws through the plains, creating the distinctive topography of eastern Montana.
