Pigeon River forms the international boundary with Canada at the northern edge of this Lake Superior shoreline study, where the inland forests meet the water at Deronda Bay and Red Rock. The interior is characterized by the complex geography of the Grand Portage Indian Reservation and the Grand Portage State Forest. Strategically placed fire lookouts, including the Mt Sophie Lookout Tower and Mt Maud Lookout Tower, overlook a landscape of scattered lakes such as Speckled Trout Lake and Swamp Lake.
