About this map

The Grand Portage Indian Reservation occupies much of this North Shore landscape, where the international boundary between the United States and Canada follows the course of the Pigeon River. This 1959 survey, updated with 1980s aerial photography, captures a remote borderland defined by its relationship to Lake Superior and the rugged interior terrain. Strategic high points like Mt Sophie Lookout Tower and Mt Maud Lookout Tower overlook a network of lakes and creeks, including Speckled Trout Lake and Red Rock Creek.
