1971 Map of Miners Canyon

USGS Topo · Published 1985

About this map

Miners Canyon cuts through the high eastern slopes of the Pilot Range, overlooking a stark landscape where the Great Basin's hydrologic patterns are on full display. The 1970s terrain is defined by the transition from steep mountain canyons to the expansive Pilot Creek Valley, where water sources like Miners Spring and Little Salt Spring provided critical points of interest in an otherwise arid environment. An extensive Aqueduct system and strategically placed Water Tanks trace the effort to manage water across the state line between Nevada and Utah. Geological and natural curiosities are scattered throughout the quadrangle, including the geologic formations of Window Rock, Raven Cave, and various unnamed Caves along the mountain front, while the lowlands are dominated by shifting Sand Dunes and a large expanse designated as Alkali or Mud.
