Moffett Springs and the surrounding high-desert terrain of Custer County are defined by the convergence of steep canyons and thermal features. Located within the Challis National Forest, the landscape transitions from the peaks of the Lemhi Range, including Bear Mtn, down to the hydrologically active floor of the Little Lost River Valley. The presence of Barney Hot Springs and Iron Springs suggests a geothermal character that has long drawn interest to this corner of Idaho.
