About this map

The railroad junction at Moorland serves as the focal point of this mid-1960s survey of southern Webster County. The landscape is defined by the convergence of major rail lines, including the Chicago Great Western, the Chicago And North Western, and the Illinois Central, which cut diagonal and linear paths across the agricultural townships of Johnson, Douglas, and Fulton. To the west, the smaller community of Roelyn sits along the rail line, while the northern edge of the map is characterized by the meandering path of South Lizard Creek and the Lizard Creek State Recreation Area. Genealogists will find notable burial sites such as Our Lady of Good Council Cem, Fulton Cem, and Mizpah Cem scattered across the prairie. The drainage of this fertile farmland is managed through an extensive network of waterways like Prairie Creek and man-made infrastructure such as Ditch No 96.
