About this map

The United States and Canada border defines the southeastern corner of this map, marking a remote boundary line through the northern Maine woods of Aroostook County. The landscape is primarily a drainage network for the Rivière Noire, characterized by numerous lakes and streams with French nomenclature reflecting the region's cultural geography. Notable water bodies include Lac à l'Orignal, Lac Noir, and Lac à la Truite, which feed into the complex system of the Ruisseau à l'Eau Claire and its western branch. On the American side of the border, the topography rises toward Morrison Brook and the West Branch Little Black River. This terrain is largely inaccessible save for Irving Rd, illustrating the deep timberland isolation of the international frontier in the early twenty-first century.
