Helena National Forest encompasses the high-altitude terrain of the Big Belt Mountains, where several prominent peaks and glacial lakes define the local geography. Mount Edith and Mount Baldy serve as dominant anchors for the region, overlooking a complex drainage system that includes Hidden Lake, Edith Lake, and Upper Baldy Lake. The landscape is etched by numerous deep drainages such as Holloway Gulch and Middle Fork Cabin Gulch, which provide critical watersheds for the area's creeks. A boundary line between Meagher County and Broadwater County traverses these heights, following the ridgelines that separate the headwaters. Evidence of access into this wilderness is found along Holloway Rd and Natl Forest Develop Road 423 Rd, tracing paths through the heavy timber and alpine meadows near The Needles.
