The Olympic Mountains dominate this high-elevation quadrangle at the intersection of Jefferson, Mason, and Grays Harbor counties. The landscape is defined by the headwaters of several major drainages, including the North Fork Quinault River and the Wynoochee River. In the southern portion of the sheet, Mt Hoquiam rises above Lake Connie, while further east, the terrain climbs toward Discovery Peak and Discovery Lake. These peaks and valleys reflect a wilderness environment where human presence is largely limited to backcountry access routes.

Primitive transportation networks provide the only passage through this protected area, including the Graves Creek Primitive Trl and the Wynoochee Pass Trl. Much of the territory falls within the Olympic National Park and the adjacent Olympic Wilderness, preserving the primitive character of the Quinault River system. The map documents the intricate network of alpine creeks like Litchy Creek and Rustler Creek that feed the river basins below.
