Mt Jefferson and the Eastern Centennial Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape along the border of Montana and Idaho. The territory is defined by the Continental Divide, which traces a high ridge through the Beaverhead National Forest and Targhee National Forest. This high-country drainage system feeds into Red Rock Cr and the low-lying Centennial Valley, where the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge provides a protected sanctuary in the Alaska Basin.
