Mt Marcy towers over this section of the Adirondack Park Preserve, marking the highest point in a landscape defined by dramatic elevation and complex water systems. The map shows the remote headwaters of the Hudson, including the famous Lake Tear-of the-Clouds, which sits high on the shoulder of Mt Skylight. To the west, the Opalescent River flows through the Flowed-Lands and past Hanging Spear Falls, while the southern reaches are dominated by the expanse of Boreas Ponds and the Boreas River. Notable for its lack of modern development, the area remains a wild network of peaks and drainage basins. Hikers and researchers can trace the intricate terrain of the Colvin Range or the wetlands of Marcy Swamp, where Marcy Brook and Stillwater Inlet converge. Small landmarks like Slant Rock and Schofield Cobble provide fine-scale navigational points within the High Peaks wilderness.
