Kings Canyon National Park and the Inyo National Forest meet along the high spine of the Sierra Nevada, where the county line separates Fresno and Inyo. This 2018 survey documents a landscape dominated by soaring peaks and high-elevation basins, including the Upper Basin and Lake Basin. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail serves as the primary artery for movement through this wilderness, crossing Pinchot Pass between Lake Marjorie and the headwaters of Woods Creek. The topography is defined by significant summits such as Mt Pinchot, Mt Ruskin, and Cardinal Mountain. Glacial features are evident in the numerous alpine lakes, such as Bench Lake and Twin Lakes, and the dramatic Cirque Crest. This map provides an essential record of the modern trail system and protected land boundaries in one of California’s most significant mountain regions.
