Mount Pleasant and the surrounding Ozark foothills are defined by a complex network of creeks and ridge-top settlements in this 2017 study. The area is heavily marked by its rural burial grounds, including the curiously named No Bottom Cem, Chinquapin Cem, and Winkle Cem, which serve as vital markers for local genealogical research. The landscape transitions from the higher elevations of Pine Mtn and Bat Knob Hill in the north toward the White River valley in the south, where the community of Cushman sits near the border of Independence County and Izard County. The drainage patterns of W Lafferty Cr and E Lafferty Cr have historically dictated the placement of roads and homesteads, creating a rugged patchwork of hollows such as Stillhouse Hollow and Lafferty Hollow that remain central to the region's geographic identity.
