Mining operations and high mountain peaks dominate this landscape along the boundary of Lake and Park Counties. The northern portion of the map is densely populated with historical extraction sites on the slopes of Breece Hill and Ball Mountain, including the Ibex Mine, Julia Fiske Mine, and Irene No 2 Mine. These claims reflect a legacy of hard-rock prospecting that follows the drainages of California Gulch and Iowa Gulch.

Toward the center, the terrain rises to the summit of Mount Sherman, flanked by Peerless Mountain and Mount Sheridan. Evidence of early settlement and logistical hubs can be found at the Leavick site near Fourmile Creek and the historical crossing at Weston Pass. The southern reaches transition into the protected lands of the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area, where the industrial landscape gives way to natural drainages like Spring Creek and Big Union Creek.
