About this map

Mountainaire Road winds through the heart of the Coconino National Forest, serving as the primary corridor for the small settlement of Mountainaire. In the early 1960s, this area south of the Flagstaff corporate boundary was defined by a landscape of volcanic buttes and deep washes, where livestock and wildlife relied on an extensive network of tanks and seeps like Kellam Tank and Kelly Seep. Evidence of earlier infrastructure is visible in the Old Railroad Grade and Industrial Railroad Grade, which underscore the timber or hauling history of this high-country terrain.
