The Rio Grande snakes along the international border between Texas and Mexico in this 2010 depiction of the southernmost tip of the United States. This coastal landscape is defined by low-lying elevations known as lomas, which rise above the surrounding tidal flats and marshes. These include Loma de la Pita, Loma de las Vacas, and Loma del Burro. Near the Gulf coast, the settlement of Kopernik Shores sits just inland from the expansive Boca Chica Beach.
