1929 Map of Palmito Hill

About this map

The winding Rio Grande serves as the international boundary between the United States and Mexico in this 1929 survey of coastal Cameron County. This landscape is characterized by a series of low rises or "lomas" that break the flat coastal plains, including Loma del Muerto and Loma de las Yeguas. These elevated points provided strategic footing in an area otherwise dominated by the salt marshes of the Laguna Madre.
