The Rio Grande snakes along the international border with Mexico at the southernmost tip of Texas, reaching its terminus at the Mouth of Rio Grande on the Gulf of Mexico. This coastal landscape is defined by its low-lying terrain and a series of prominent rises known as lomas, including Loma de la Pita and Loma de las Vacas. These elevations provide rare vertical relief among the tidal flats and salt marshes of the region.
