Muggins Flat and the surrounding high plateau of northern Arizona are defined by a network of drainage washes and seasonal catchments within the Kaibab National Forest. Water management is central to this landscape, as evidenced by the placement of Johnson Reservoir and Muggins Reservoir near the base of the Moquith Mountains. These features, along with Johnson Spring, suggest a history of livestock grazing or resource management in an otherwise arid environment.
