The remote settlement of Chisana sits at the heart of this high-alpine landscape, where the Nutzotin Mountains meet the Alaska Range. This 2023 survey documents a vast protected wilderness within the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Preserve and the adjoining Wrangell-St. Elias Wilderness. The drainage of the Chisana River dominates the eastern half of the sheet, fed by glacial tributaries including Chathenda Creek, Medicine Man Creek, and Chavolda Creek. Peaks like Mt Allen and Warrick Peak define the high ridgelines, anchoring a terrain defined by steep contours and braided river valleys. The map illustrates the complex hydrography of the interior, showing the intricate network of gulches and creeks such as Dry Gulch and Nelson Creek that carve through the Wrangell Mountains. This modern topographic study provides an essential record of the natural boundaries and land status in one of the most secluded regions of the American subarctic.
