The Wrangell-Saint-Elias National Preserve dominates this section of the Copper River Census Area, where several prominent mountain ranges converge. The high peaks of the Mentasta Mountains to the northwest and the Nutzotin Mountains to the southeast frame a complex drainage system defined by the Nabesna River. This glacial watercourse is fed by numerous tributaries including Stone Creek, Cooper Creek, and Totschunda Creek. Toward the southern edge of the quadrangle, the terrain begins its ascent into the Wrangell Mountains.
