The Mentasta Mountains dominate this 1960s interior landscape, where glacial runoff feeds a complex network of waterways including the Chestina River and Totschunda Creek. A significant portion of the northern terrain is occupied by the Tetlin Indian Reservation, characterized by its high-altitude peaks and the winding Tetlin River. The survival of traditional transit routes is evident through the marking of a remote Pack Trail in the north and a Tractor Trail near the broad gravel bars of the Nabesna River in the southeast. Geographic anomalies such as Soda Lake and the nearby Mineral Springs suggest a unique geological composition in the southern valleys. This map captures the region before extensive modern development, documenting the unsurveyed land lines as predetermined by the Bureau of Land Management and the original natural drainage patterns of Platinum Creek and Soda Creek.
