Lake Springfield dominates the northwestern corner of this landscape, its fingers reaching into the surrounding prairie land just southeast of Springfield. The shoreline is heavily developed with institutional anchors including the University of Illinois Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College, while Lindsey Bridge provides a primary crossing for the lake's eastern reach. South and east of the water, the terrain transitions into a grid of agricultural land and wooded creek bottoms.
