The Missouri River carves a deep valley through this landscape on the border of Roosevelt and McCone counties. Along its northern banks, a series of complex waterways including Chelsea Slough, Chelsea Cr, and Tule Cr weave around Chelsea Island, illustrating the dynamic nature of the river's floodplains. To the south, the terrain rises into upland coulees and ridges drained by Nickwall Creek and Rermley Cr, eventually meeting the Redwater River in the southeast corner. The small community of Nickwall sits centrally on the plateau, marked by its namesake Nickwall Rd and the nearby Pleasant View Cem. This 2020 survey documents the rural character of the region, where Bureau of Indian Affairs routes like BIA Rte 1 provide access to the remote riverside bottomlands.
