Ninemile Flat and Rima Flat define the terraced topography above the Columbia River in this section of Ferry County. The landscape is dominated by the drainage systems of Ninemile Creek and its tributaries, including South Fork Ninemile Creek and Little Ninemile Creek, which cut through the high elevations of Gold Mountain Ridge. The impoundment of the river is visible as the Franklin D Roosevelt Lake, which is bordered by the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.
