The northern edge of Lake Pontchartrain reveals a landscape defined by water-level engineering and coastal expansion in the late 1960s and 1970s. Residential developments such as North Shore Beach and North Shore are etched into the marshland, characterized by a dense network of artificial waterways including Canal No 1 and Canal No 2. This suburban growth extends toward the southern reaches of Slidell, where purple-tinted revisions indicate urban expansion near Fields Cem.

Crossing the water, the Southern railroad line and a highway bridge link the St. Tammany Parish mainland to Pointe aux Herbes and the remote outposts of the New Orleans lakefront.
